Kylie Birthday Mini Kit Review and Dupes

After Attempting all through August to get this kit I finally got it on the last release day. Since Kylie brought out her lip kits I've wanted to try them but I'd heard very mixed reviews on them so I wasn't sure whether to get anything. When I saw these were coming out I thought they would be good for me to try out some of the colours I'd liked from the beginning. The shades in this collection are Exposed, Dolce K, Koko K, Candy K, Kristen and Leo.

(Leo, Kristen, Candy K, Koko K, Dolce K and Exposed)
My first impression of these are that they remind me of a more drying version of the Nyx Soft Matte Lip creams. The scent of these were exactly like the Nyx, they smell like sweet cake which is always a bonus. I have extremely dry lips and these do emphasise that a lot, however if I exfoliate and hydrate them before using a lip liner and then the liquid lipstick I find they last better and don't feel as drying.

This is Leo, this was new in August with her Birthday releases so I was very surprised that it was in this set. This is probably my least favourite one even though I was very excited to try it. I find it too dark for my skin tone, it was hard to apply as it is so dark and because I had to layer it up to get the colour pay off, it got very smudgy and messy.
This is Kristen and I'm in love with this shade. It's one of those shades that will compliment any look and can double up as a day or night shade. This was one of the shades that I was tempted to purchase when it first came out as it was different to a lot of her other shades.
This is Koko K and it's not my favourite shade, I've had things similar to this in the past and I find it's too light. I use these shades to ombre my lips or I use a dark lip liner to alter the colour.
This is Dolce K and I don't think the photo does the colour justice. This is usually the darkest brown I would use on my lips but the photo has slightly altered the colour to make it look greyish. This colour isn't my favourite however the swatch above is more accurate to the colour.
This is Candy K and its another one of my favourites, it looks like a lilac on my lips without lip liner however its actually a medium brown/pink. Its my perfect mix of both brown and pink and I will be using this a lot.
This is Exposed and its a very warm light brown shade. It's not a shade I would go for a lot but it'll be handy to have as I don't have a colour like this in my collection.

Once I'd tried out all of these shades I realised I had a few similar shades already in my collection. As these are no longer available in this mini set I thought I'd share the dupes that I have found in case you don't want to spend all the money on the full size of these lip kits.

Above is me trying to up my swatching game, the triangles are the kylie shades in Leo, Kristen, Candy K and Koko K. As you can see I have found extremely similar colour matches for them. Below are the dupes:

Leo - Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream  - Copenhagen
Kristen - Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream  - Cannes
Candy K - Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream  -  London
(This is not an exact colour match however it's similar on the lips)
Koko K - Jouer Lip Creme - Melon

I hope you've enjoyed my mini review and find the dupes useful for anyone looking to try the shades. Let me know if any of you have tried them and what your favourite shades are.

Shannon xx
