When I first started makeup I never thought you needed to use a primer, I didn't think they really did anything. It wasn't until recently when I noticed my makeup wearing off that I started priming my face. I tried a few primers out both drugstore and high end but I couldn't find one that I felt made any difference to my makeup wear. Some primers did smooth my skin and helped blend foundation in but I just wanted my makeup to last longer.
I then saw Nikkie Tutorials promoting the Nivea for men Post Shave Balm as an amazing primer. I saw a lot of other YouTuber's
trying it out and loving it and then when I saw my beauty idol Jaclyn Hill using it, I knew I had to have it. I went to my local supermarket and picked one
up on sale for £2.50, if this works it would be the cheapest ‘primer’ I had
bought.
The packaging is quite nice and clean looking in a glass
bottle. You get 100ml which is a lot for how much you pay for the product. The
first downfall I noticed with the product is that there is no pump, which meant
I poured way too much out into my hands the first time I used it. It has a masculine
scent to it but it’s not too bad and you can’t smell it when foundation is applied
on top of it. The product has a thick consistency so a little bit goes a long
way. As you can see in my swatch of the product when it is blended in it gives
a nice glow and believe me when I say I kept that glow even with all the makeup
I put on top of it. The product goes tacky/sticky when you are rubbing it in,
that’s when you should apply your foundation.
Throughout the first day of trying this I noticed that the
glow of the product shining through and I liked that about it, it looked very
natural. After wearing my makeup all day I checked it after about eight hours
and it looked like I’d just applied it. When I got round to washing it off, the
Nivea Post Shave Balm had glued the
makeup to my face so I feel I could of gone another few hours and still looked
great. This is exactly what I was looking for in a primer, I didn't think the
product would work this good let alone having me use it every day.
For anyone thinking of getting it definitely do, it’s such
an inexpensive product and I can guarantee it will top any primer you’ve got. If
you’ve got it let me know what you think, I’d love to hear your opinion.
